Dog Heartworm Prevention

DON’T BE BROKEN HEARTED

Heartworm is a parasite that lives in the bloodstream, heart and lungs of dogs, cats and foxes. Infection is serious and potentially deadly. It is transmitted via mosquito bites.

The prevalence of heartworm in Australia is still being established, some areas are very high risk and others are lower risk.

When travelling, we recommend the most convenient and effective Heartworm prevention to be a yearly preventative injection. This can be given at the same time as your dog’s annual vaccination and to puppies from 12 weeks of age.

There are some monthly heartworm preventatives available but it is imperative that these products are given exactly monthly in order to be effective.

A heartworm test may be recommended before treatment for your pet’s safety, please ask and we can discuss it further.

Price varies with the size of your dog, please contact us for an estimate.
